Fee vs points calculator
Is paying a bill by card worth the fee? Enter your bill and card to see the fee, the points, what they're worth and your break-even value per point.
Defaults are the fees as at 6 Oct 2026 (incl. GST) and example earn rates. Change them to match your card. Card earn rates are examples only; check your card's terms, including any caps or exclusions on government payments.
Worked example
A $10,000 ATO payment through Sniip on a business Amex (2.19%), earning 1 point per $1, points valued at 1 cent, with Qantas Frequent Flyer linked:
- Fee: $219.00
- Points: 10,219 card points (on bill + fee) + 1,000 Sniip Qantas Points = 11,219
- Value: $112.19, so a net cost of $106.81
- Break-even: 1.95 cents a point
Verdict: at 1 cent a point you're paying more in fees than the points are worth. If you value points at 2 cents or more, the points win.

Not included: Sniip Points Booster and pay.com.au PayRewards, which cost extra and add more points. Sniip's Qantas Points cap applies across all your Sniip card payments in a calendar month.
Frequently asked questions
How is the break-even value per point worked out?
Fee divided by total points earned, in cents. If you value your points above that figure, the points are worth more than the fee.
Why are card points counted on the fee too?
Sniip says your card is charged the full amount including the processing fee, and your card earns on that full amount, subject to your card's terms. Sniip's own Qantas Points are earned on the bill amount only.
What value per point should I use?
It depends on how you redeem. 1 cent is a simple default; premium flight redemptions can be worth more, gift cards often less. Change the figure to match how you use your points.
Are the fees GST-inclusive?
Yes, the defaults include GST. A GST-registered business may be able to claim the GST back, which lowers the real cost.
